The Vandals will gear up for their biggest challenge of the year so far as they head to Boise, Idaho for the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Wednesday through Saturday, May 14-17.

With many of the team's top athletes redshirting, the Vandal men put together a fifth-place showing last season. With Russ Winger, Matt Wauters and Marcus Mattox back and addition of athletes like Elvie Williams, Paul Dittmer and Lucas Pope, the team will look to go much higher.

The Vandal women took third last season and will look to bump up higher after improving greatly and adding important newcomers to the roster.

Returning conference champions from 2007 include Melinda Owen in the women's pole vault, who will go for her sixth total WAC title in the event and Bastien Tardy in the men's 800m, who looks for his third conference crown after a fall in the finals kept him from defending his indoor title.

The action starts on Wednesday with the multi-events, as Idaho will send four women to compete in the heptathlon. The individual events start up on Friday.
