Jager's reign continues

Many tried but none could succeed in dethroning Idaho swim coach in the annual Fastest Swimmer on the Palouse competition - a fund raiser for the Moscow Food Bank.

One of Jager's assistants, diving coach Niko Dalman, came closest but he was a half a length back. Of course, Jager has seven Olympic swim medals - five golds, to his credit and he reigned as the world's top sprinter for a decade before retiring from competition swimmers.

That wasn't to say Wednesday night didn't have a host of those with their eyes on Jager, who fended off the challenges of not only his own Vandal swimmers but members of the Gold Medal Swim Club, a handful of Idaho football players, a Vandal tennis player, a couple masters swimmers and a bevy of 12-year-olds.

The big winner, though, is the Moscow food bank which is the recipient of cash and donations brought by swimmers and spectators.
