Sanz, Lozano are first-team

DENVER – Idaho women's tennis players Victoria Lozano and Almudena Sanz teamed up to earn first-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors at the No. 1 doubles position, the league announced at its annual awards banquet on Thursday night.

Lozano and Sanz, the last two WAC Players of the Week, teamed up to go 13-4 at the No. 1 doubles position together, with a 7-0 record in WAC play. With a win in Thursday's WAC quarterfinals, the pairing enters Friday's WAC semis with a 14-4 record and a 12-match win streak.

Sanz earned her first WAC Player of the Week honor of 2013 earlier this week, while Lozano earned the same honor for the first time this season on April 15. Lozano was a first-team all-WAC pick in singles and doubles as a sophomore in 2012, and a second-team all-WAC pick and singles and doubles after her freshman campaign in 2011. Sanz was a first-team all-WAC honoree in doubles last season, and a second-team all-WAC player in singles.

The fifth-seeded Vandals will take on top-seeded Denver at 1 p.m. (PT) on Friday in the WAC semifinals.
