PULLMAN, Wash. – Competition has begun at the WSU Indoor Open, with a handful of events taking place on Friday. The Vandals showed some success in the opening events, taking one first place finish and four top-10's.
Kolcie Bates was the top performer of the day for the Vandals. Bates won the discus competition with a throw of 43.40 meters and took fourth in the weight throw at 16.08 meters, improving upon her throw at the Vandal Indoor Invitational. Bates will also compete on Saturday in the shot put.
Lauren Cooper had a solid finish in the weight throw, earning sixth at 15.56 meters.
Cecilia Watkins took ninth in the pole vault with a leap of 3.25 meters, while teammate Julia Smith placed 12th at 3.10 meters.
In the men's weight throw, Quinn Mitchell earned 11th with a toss of 14.59 meters. Matthew Pete Bauman took 14th at 14.22 meters.
Reed Richardson placed 15th in the triple jump at 10.02 meters. Lauren Curlanis finished close behind at 9.94 meters.
