LEWISTON, Idaho—Idaho men's tennis cruised past Southern Utah, 7-0, on Thursday. The Vandals picked up their third consecutive win, improving to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Sky play.
Doubles play set the tone early for the Vandals. Odon Barta and Felipe Fonseca opened up play on the No. 2 court with a 6-0 win over the Thurnderbird pair. Mark Kovacs and Jackson Varney dominated in No.1 play, beating SUU 6-1. Lucas Coutinho and Peter Shin wrapped up doubles, with a 6-2 win on the No. 3.
The Silver and Gold continued to dominate in singles action. Kovacs got the first singles-win for Idaho with a 6-0, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court. Barta scored a 6-0, 6-0 decision over SUU's No. 1, Dario Rios. Fonseca matched Barta in No. 2 play with a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own, clinching the match for Idaho.
Idaho swept the reaming singles-courts, picking up wins from Varney, Coutinho and Shin.
The squad now hits the road for a pair of Big Sky bouts in Montana. Idaho will take on Montana State on Saturday and Montana on Sunday.
