LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Idaho wrapped up competition in Southern California on Saturday. The Vandals were tremendously successful on the weekend with a number of Big Sky Championship qualifiers and personal-bests set.
At the Long Beach Invitational, Matt Sullivan cleared 5.03 meters in the pole vault, taking eighth. The height qualifies him for the Big Sky Championships and is the second best of the year in the conference.
Arphaxad Carroll outdid himself again, going 7.44 meters in the long jump and finishing sixth. Carroll already had the top jump of the year in the conference, set on Thursday, and now has the eighth best jump in Idaho history.
Kolcie Bates set a season-best in the discus throw at 44.27 meters.
Weekend Recap
Drew Thompson got the weekend started out with a personal-best total of 6296 points in the decathlon, taking seventh overall and qualifying for the Big Sky Championships. Nathan Stark made his mark in Idaho history on Thursday, running the ninth fastest 3000-meter steeplechase in program history.
Kinsey Gomez set a personal-best in the 1500-meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 4:22.10. The time is also the fastest in the Big Sky this season and the fourth fastest time in Idaho program history.
