GREELEY, Colo. – Idaho track and field had a tremendous start to the Big Sky Championship, winning one event and placing four on All-Big Sky teams.
Arphaxad Carroll impressed yet again, jumping a personal-best 7.51 meters in the long jump, winning the event and earning All-Big Sky honors.
In the men's pole vault, Matt Sullivan took second overall after clearing 5.20 meters. The jump was the best of the outdoor season for Sullivan.
Katelyn Peterson took third in the high jump, earning her fourth-consecutive all-conference honor in the event. She cleared 1.70 meters, her best jump of the season.
Nathan Stark also earned All-Big Sky honors after earning third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:27.52.
Derek Haas and Ian Middleton each scored for the Vandals in the javelin. Haas finished sixth at 60.41 meters, while Middleton took eighth with a throw of 56.35 meters.
Sierra Speiker took sixth in the 10,000-meters with a time of 37:31:47. Kolcie Bates picked up a point for the Vandals with an eighth place finish in the discus at 43.28 meters.
Several Vandals are also moving on to the finals on Saturday. Ben Ayesu-Attah and Kaizer Gillispie both qualified in the 400-meter dash, finishing second and fourth in the prelims, respectively. Gillispie set a new personal-best with a time of 47.92 seconds.
Andrea Pikes will take part in the 100-meter dash final on Saturday after earning fourth in the prelims with a PR of 11.86 seconds. Marquita Palmer will compete in the 800-meter final after finishing second in the prelims, also setting a PR at 2:10.71.
Zion Stuffle moves on to Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 52.73 seconds. Meghan Palesch advanced on the women's side, setting a personal-best with a time of 1:02.55.
