TOLUCA, Mexico - University of Idaho thrower Matt Wauters earned a bronze finish at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships in the men's hammer throw on Saturday.
Wauters, a three-time NCAA Regional qualifier in the hammer throw and two-time All-American in the 35-lb. weight throw, tossed the hammer 195-7 (59.61m) to take third in the event. Canada's Sean Steacy won with a throw of 214-3 (65.30m).
The NACAC is one of six area associations of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF). It consists of 32 member federations ranging from Anguilla to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each country sends a maximum of two athletes per event to the competition, which is held every other year.
Two Vandals were selected to the 2006 competition at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Russ Winger represented the U.S. in the men's shot put and finished second, while Bevin Kennelly represented Canada in the 3,000m steeplechase and finished third.
