Women's tennis builds with experience transfer

MOSCOW ? Idaho director of tennis Jeff Beaman has announced that junior Daniela Cohen will join the Vandal women this fall after transferring from Old Dominion.

Cohen compiled a 28-20 singles record and 22-17 doubles record for the Monarchs from 2006-08, including a 17-4 singles record her freshman year.

“We look for Daniela to really add to our program,” Beaman said. “She brings a high level of tennis, great academics and comes in with experience at a very strong NCAA D-I program.”

Prior to her time at ODU, Cohen had a standout junior career in her home country of Israel. She spent time as the top-ranked player in Israel and a top-20 player in Europe at the 14-year-old age group. She has competed at both the European Junior Championships and the World Junior Championships.

As an amateur player at age 16, she was ranked as highly as fifth in Israel and earned a ranking on the Women's Professional Tennis Tour.

Cohen also served in the Israeli army for 18 months as an artillery instructor.

Beaman said Cohen will contribute immediately to the top of the Idaho order and will give the young Vandal squad a source of leadership.

“We expect Daniela to perform at a high position for us and give us some leadership as a player who is already familiar with tennis at the collegiate level,” Beaman said.
