The highest ranked Vandal athlete entering the competition is Ulrike Hartz, whose score of 5,601 in the women's heptathlon ranks sixth nationally. Senior James Rogan ranks eighth among men's hammer throw competitors and will try to improve on his 17th-place finish in the event from a year ago.

Two of Idaho's competitors have All-America awards under their belts, as senior Mykael Bothum is a two-time indoor All-American in the women's shot put and sophomore Jeremy Klas earned his certificate in the men's pole vault at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships.

All-America accolades are given to the top eight finishers in each event, as well as the top eight American finishers in each event.

Hartz will be the first Idaho competitor in action. She will start the seven-event women's heptathlon on Wednesday with the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m, and will conclude on Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800m. The women's hammer throw and men's pole vault will take place Thursday afternoon, while the men's hammer and women's shot put will be Friday afternoon and the men's shot put will be Saturday.

Weekly Honor Roll:
The weekend was riddled with historical and significant moments at the NCAA West Preliminary Round May 27-29. Sophomore Jeremy Klas broke the school record in the men's pole vault at 17-2.75, and in doing so became the first Idaho man to qualify for the NCAA championships in the event since 1952. Fellow sophomore Gabby Midles is the youngest Idaho woman to qualify for an NCAA Championships meet since 1990 and is also the first hammer thrower to qualify for the national meet.

Idaho's group of seven total NCAA qualifiers is its largest team at an NCAA Outdoor Championship meet since 1984. That group includes just one athlete who qualified to last year's outdoor national meet and just three with NCAA meet experience. Two are sophomores and two are juniors.

Senior James Rogan was Idaho's top finisher at the Preliminary meet, as he took fourth in the men's hammer throw, while Klas was the biggest climber. He entered the competition ranked 28th in the West Region in the men's pole vault, but jumped 16 spots and claimed the final qualifying position in 12th.
