AUBURN, Wash. - Idaho's Jarred Bossio fired a nine-under-par 63 to tie the course record at Washington National Golf Club and pull himself from a tie for 28th into third at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational.

Bossio wound up being paired with fellow Olympia, Wash., native Cameron Peck during the final round. Peck, who attends Texas A&M and was friends with Bossio during high school although they went to competing high schools, had a bogey-free round in tying Bossio at 63. Bossio's round included 11 birdies and two bogeys and left him at 211 for the tournament.

"It was an unbelievable round to watch," coach John Means said. "He just knocked everything close all day long. He was making five-, six-foot putts for birdie."

Means said the crowd that gathered about the group did nothing to distract them.

""They just fed off each other," he said.

Bossio's round helped Idaho leap from a tie for eighth into fifth with a tournament-total 871. Pepperdine won the 54-hole event with an 847 while host Washington was second at 854.

Junior Stefan Richardson also had a solid outing with a three-under 69 to finish at 222 and tied for 30th with teammate Zach Wanderscheid, a true freshman. One stroke back at 223 and tied for 33rd was sophomore Damian Telles with Justin Kadin, another true freshman for the Vandals, tied for 59th at 229.

"It was a great finish for the competitiveness of the field," said Means, who complimented his young players' abilities to make improvements from one round to the next. "They're young and experienced but they're learning fast. I know they're good. I don't think they know how good they are."
