|Lozano wins doubles event|
LA PAZ, Bolivia - Idaho women's tennis player Victoria Lozano, a rising junior, continued her successful summer of tennis Friday when she, along with partner Camila Silva, won four straight doubles matches to claim the doubles title at the La Paz $10,000.
It is the second consecutive week Lozano has competed as an amateur in a professional event, as last week she advanced to the championship match in both singles and doubles in the Cochabamba $10,000.
Lozano and Silva opened the La Paz $10,000 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the second-seeded pairing in the tournament, Sofia Luini and Francesca Rescaldani. After two more straight-sets wins, the duo faced the third-seeded team of Gabriela Coglitore and Guadalupe Moreno in the championship match, which they won 6-3, 6-2.
"It’s great to see that she had another excellent week," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said. "I’m really excited for her that she won this event. It bodes really well for the upcoming season. She has one more week of events down there and we wish her the best of luck."
Lozano, a two-time all-Western Athletic Conference selection at Idaho, lost a tight three-setter in the opening round of the singles draw in the tournament.
La Paz has an altitude of over 13,000 feet above sea level, which is good experience for Lozano, as the 2013 WAC tournament will be played in Denver, Colo., at an altitude of over 5,000 feet.
