Vandals fifth in season-opener

PULLMAN, Wash. – The University of Idaho men’s golf team finished fifth at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

Aaron Cockerill tied for 10th and Gordon Webb tied for 15th in the Vandals season-opening event. Cockerill, with rounds of 76-74-73, was at seven-over 223, while Webb was at 11-over 227 after rounds of 78-73-76. Also for the Vandals, Dylan Baker tied for 29th at 230 with Alex Pounds in a tie for 50th at 236, Mark Giorgi tied for 56th at 241 and Scott Riley tied for 62nd at 242. Zach Wanderscheid did not play all three rounds.

Host Washington State won the tournament with an 11-over 875. Arizona was second at 23-over 887 followed by San Jose State at 890. Idaho’s 908 tied them for fifth with Gonzaga in the 11-team field.
