|Vandals sweep Utah State|
LOGAN, Utah - The Idaho volleyball team got back to .500 in Western Athletic Conference play Saturday night with a 3-0 sweep of Utah State in Logan, Utah.
The Vandals came out of the gate strong, building an 11-3 lead in it 25-14 set-one win. A 15-7 run to close the second set gave Idaho a 25-15 win and a 2-0 lead at the break. Idaho led 24-19 in the final set before the Aggies battled back to make it 24-22, but it was too little too late for Utah State as Idaho competed the sweep with a 25-22 win.
Idaho improves to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in WAC play. The Aggies drop to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the WAC.
"We had a great match," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "We played great tonight. The kids came out with a lot of intensity."
Junior Ashley Christman was on fire for Idaho, obliterating her previous career-high.455 hitting percentage by hitting .756 in the match while equaling her career-high with 13 kills. She needed just 17 swings and didn't make an error in. She also added two blocks and two digs.
Junior Allison (Walker) Baker finished with 11 kills and six digs for Idaho. Alyssa Schultz, Julia Church and Alex Sele each finished with three blocks. Sele added five kills while Schultz had four and Church had two. Freshman Katelyn Peterson finished with five kills.
Jenny Feicht and Ryann Carter split setting duties for Idaho, which ran its 6-2 rotation. Feicht finished with 17 assists while Carter tallied 15. Janelle Chow had eight digs and two aces and Jenna Ellis added five digs.
The Vandals hit a season-high .352 in the match with 40 kills and eight errors on 91 attempts. The Vandals owned a 9.0-4.0 advantage in digs and held Utah State to just .096 hitting, with 32 kills and 23 errors on 94 swings. Utah State's .096 hitting percentage was the second lowest for an Idaho opponent this season.
The win was Idaho's first road win of the season.
The Vandals will return home to host Texas State on Sept. 27 and UTSA on Sept. 29. Both matches start at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym.
