|Pollock announces spring slate|
MOSCOW - The Idaho women's tennis team will face a challenging 25-match spring schedule, including four home matches and nine Western Athletic Conference matches, as head coach Dan Pollock released the schedule Tuesday.
The Vandals get things started at Washington State on Jan. 19, and play mostly regional opponents throughout the non-conference season, including Oregon, Portland, Portland State, Idaho State, Boise State, Montana, Montana State, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, LCSC and Whitman College.
"This is a very tough schedule," Pollock said. "We play so many teams that are extremely close to us in level. There are going to be a lot of nail biters and hard fought battles this spring. There are only one or two matches where we are a clear favorite or a clear underdog."
Idaho's nine match WAC schedule features Denver, UT Arlington, UTSA, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech, Seattle U, San Jose State, Texas State and Utah State. Idaho hosts Seattle U, San Jose State and Texas State April 12-14. Idaho's only home non-conference match is March 6 against Eastern Washington, although the Vandals play in Pullman, Wash., twice, once against Washington State and again against Nevada on Feb. 15.
"The addition of Denver and the Texas schools to the WAC makes the conference as deep and competitive as ever," Pollock said. "I'm excited that we will get to host a WAC pod up here in Moscow in mid-April. It's a huge lift for the girls to play at home after the amount of time they spend on the road for the majority of the season."
After a 19-8 overall record and a 3-1 record in the WAC in the spring of 2012, and a strong showing so far this fall, Pollock is excited for the potential his team carries into 2013.
"If we stay focused, stay healthy, and get the leadership we need from our veterans I think we can have a very successful season and continue to take the program to new heights."
