Mortellaro on the verge

University of Idaho graduate Kayla Mortellaro is succeeding in her battle as the elements as she continues in her quest for a playing card on the LPGA Tour.

With three of four rounds out of the way, Mortellaro is tied for 24th at three-under 217. There is one more round to play before the cut to the low 70. That group of 70 and ties will play two more rounds with the low 40 from that group earning their LPGA playing cards.

Mortellaro struggled in her opening round over the LPGA International Course at Daytona Beach, Fla. That round netted her a 79. She rallied during her next two rounds with back-to-back 69s to move toward the top of the field.

Low for the tournament is Moriya Jutanugarn at 203. Six strokes back is Ayako Uehara at 209.

Even if Mortellaro doesn't earn her LPGA card, she already has secured a spot on the Symestra Tour – the training ground for the LPGA.
