|Vandal women battle UC Irvine|
The Idaho women's basketball team continues its month-long stretch of six consecutive games away from home this week, as it visits UC Irvine from the Big West Conference at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Vandals (1-6) are 0-2 so far during the road stint, dropping both of their games at the Lady Griz Classic in Missoula, Mont., last week. UC Irvine (2-5), has won two of its last three games entering the week.
While Idaho's 1-6 record isn't intimidating, the Vandals have shown significant improvement in nearly every statistical category over their last three games. The Vandals have increased their scoring average by 9.7 points per game, and their scoring margin by 11.5 points per game. They have also improved their rebounding by 5.5 boards per game and their rebounding margin by 12.2 rebounds per game. The Vandals are also shooting eight percent higher from the field and 9.2 percent better from 3-point distance during their last three games than they did in their first four games.
Idaho junior Alyssa Charlston leads the team with 13.6 points per game and is second with 6.9 rebounds. Only freshman Ali Forde, who averages 7.0 rebounds per game, averages more rebounds. Freshman Christina Salvatore is Idaho's only other player averaging double-figures in points, with 10.7 per game. Salvatore is 19-for-58 from 3-point distance this season, and is the only Vandal player to make at least one 3-pointer in all seven games in 2012-13.
UC Irvine is coming off a 61-60 overtime win over Seattle U. The Anteaters have already faced three Western Athletic Conference teams in 2012-13, losing to Denver 62-52 and New Mexico State 50-44 before beating Seattle U. Jennifer Tsurumoto is the only Irvine player to average double-figure points this year, with 11.1 per game.
Fans on the Palouse can catch the action on the radio on KMAX 840 AM. Live stats and online video will also be provided at www.ucirvinesports.com.
Idaho will visit UC Riverside at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7 to close out the week.
