A Look at the Roadrunners
UTSA is 5-13 overall and 1-7 in WAC play, but the Roadrunners are coming off a 78-75 win at Seattle U on Thursday. As a team, UTSA scores 66.2 points per game on 40.9 percent shooting, but gives up a 49.1 field goal clip and 73.1 points per game to opponents. The Roadrunners are out-rebounded by a 34.9-30.9 margin and commit 15.2 turnovers per game while forcing 14.6. UTSA makes 7.6 three-pointers per game on 34.8 percent shooting. Guard Kannon Burrage leads the WAC with 18.0 points per game, while teammate Michale Hale III, who scored a career-high 35 on Thursday, is second at 16.1 points per contest. In WAC play, UTSA is third in the league in defensive rebound percentage at .688, right behind Idaho (.692).

UTSA Head Coach Brooks Thompson
Brooks Thompson is in his seventh season at UTSA, where he holds a 101-104 record. He is 156-118 overall as a collegiate head coach. He led UTSA to a 2011 Southland Conference Tournament championship and a First Four victory in the NCAA Tournament. Before UTSA, he was an assistant at Arizona State from 2004-06 and head coach at Yavapai (Ariz.) College from 2002-04. As a player, he was a first-round pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.

Idaho Vandals
Turnovers spoiled a 17-point first-half lead for Idaho in its 78-73 loss to Texas State on Thursday. Idaho shot 48 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Bobcats by a 37-28 margin, but committed 18 turnovers and gave TXST 10 extra shot attempts in the game. Senior center Kyle Barone led Idaho with a career-high 27 points, along with 16 rebounds in the game. Junior Stephen Madison added 14 points and senior Mike McChristian scored 13, all in the first half.

Vandals vs. Roadrunners
UTSA and Idaho have never played in men’s basketball. The Roadrunners are the third first-time opponent for Idaho this season, along with Walla Walla University and Texas State.

Top Scorers on Display
Saturday’s game at the Cowan Spectrum will feature four of the WAC’s top six individual scorers. League leader Kannon Burrage of UTSA averages 18.0 per game, while teammate Michael Hale III is fifth in the WAC at 16.1 points per game. For Idaho, senior center is fourth in the WAC with 16.2 points and junior guard Stephen Madison is sixth at 15.2 points per game. Idaho and UTSA are the only two teams in the WAC with multiple players averaging 15 or more points per game this season.

Top Low Post Scorer
With a three-point play at the 16:37 mark of the second half on Jan. 24 against Texas State, Kyle Barone became the top low-post scorer in Idaho history. He finished the game with a career-best 27 points. His career scoring total of 1,209 points ranks eighth overall in Idaho history. Of the 13 total memebers of Idaho’s 1,000-Point Club, only three are predominantly post players - Barone (1,209), Riley Smith (1,195) and Deon Watson (1,115).

The Magic Number
For Idaho, the magic number is 70. Under head coach Don Verlin, Idaho is 52-17 when the team scores at least 70 points, but the Vandals are 24-54 when they fail to reach that benchmark. It’s the same on the defensive end for Idaho. The Vandals are 61-25 when foes score less than 70 and 15-46 when they score more.

The Most Versatile Big Man?
Senior center Kyle Barone is already the highest-scoring post player in school history and now he needs just three rebounds to become the most balanced post player all-time at Idaho, too. Barone comes into Saturday’s game with 1,209 points, 747 rebounds, 120 assists and 109 blocks. No Idaho player has ever posted 1,000 points, 750 rebounds, 100 assists and 100 blocks in a career. Only four active NCAA Division I players have reached that standard.
