Cowboys edge Vandals

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 67 Idaho men's tennis team came out on the wrong end of a close match against Oklahoma State, falling 4-3 to the Cowboys.

The Vandals dropped the doubles point after OSU won 8-5 at No. 1 and 8-3 at No. 3. Idaho's pairing of Cristobal Ramos Salazar and Jose Bendeck won 8-3 over OSU's No. 70 ranked pairing at No. 2.

Dmitry Perevoshchikov bounced back from a 6-1 loss in the first set at No. 1 singles and eventually won 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Bendeck and Salazar won their singles matches at Nos. 3 and 4, but the Cowboys won at the bottom two singles positions, and a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7) win by OSU's Chris Haworth over Abid Akbar clinched the 4-3 win for Oklahoma State.

“This was close match that I felt we had several opportunities to win,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “We put ourselves in many good situations and just weren't able to get the job done. Our guys should be able to use this as a learning experience moving forward.”

The Vandals will play their first home match of the season on April against Sacramento State. That match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Memorial Gym outdoor tennis courts.
