Vandal run comes up short

DENVER – The Idaho men's tennis team came up short in its bid for a Western Athletic Conference championship on Sunday, falling to Denver 4-0 in the championship match.

Idaho ends its season with a 21-7 record.

After Denver won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, Idaho's Abid Akbar and Marius Cirstea got an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, leaving the point in the balance at No. 2. Jose Bendeck and Cristobal Ramos Salazar battled, but came up short, falling 9-8 as Denver took the 1-0 match lead.

Denver won 6-4, 6-0 over Ramos Salazar at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2 over Dmitry Perevoshchikov at No. 1 and 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 over Marius Cirstea to clinch the tournament title 4-0.

It was Idaho's second consecutive trip to the WAC championship match.
