ARLINGTON, Texas – Idaho’s Drew Thompson is fourth after the first day of the Western Athletic Conference decathlon with Vandal teammates Ryan Bowen in fifth and Jan Kurr in 11th, while in the heptathlon competition Johanna Hocketstaller is eighth.

Thompson is just 440 points behind first-day leader Romain Martin of Texas-Arlington. Martin has 3,885 first-day points with Ryan Roberts of UT-San Antonio second at 3,750, Brandon Blanchard third with 3,686, Thompson fourth with 3,445 and Bowen fifth with 3,287.

Thompson’s score came via 806 points in the 100 meters, 688 in the long jump, 490 in the shot put, 776 in the high jump, and 685 in the 400 meters.

Hocketstaller is slightly less than 200 points out of third with Utah State’s Chari Hawkins in first with 3,515. Texas State’s Danessa Lyssy is second with 3,450 and New Mexico State’s Zoe Meade is third with 3,193. Hocketstaller has 2,998 with her best event 829 points from the shot put – the best mark in the event. She also had 799 in the 100 hurdles, 599 in the high jump and 771 in the 200.
