MTEN in regional rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Idaho men's tennis program checked in seventh in the Mountain Region and three Vandal players earned regional rankings as the ITA announced its final regional rankings for the 2013 season.

Sophomore Dmitry Perevoshchikov earned a No. 7 regional rank in singles and senior Abid Akbar was ranked No. 12. In doubles, Akbar and senior Marius Cirstea earned the region's No. 2 ranking.

“It was great to see the ranking recognition for Abid, Marius and Dmitry,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “The team had a great spring this year and those guys had a big role in our great record this past year.”

The Vandals finished with a 21-7 record in 2013 and were second in the Western Athletic Conference. Perevoshchikov went 19-8 on the season, primarily at No. 1 singles, and earned a national singles ranking as high as No. 122 after getting off to a 15-0 start to the season. Akbar, playing primarily at No. 2 singles, went 15-9 in 2013. Akbar and Cirstea teamed up to go 18-3 as a doubles pairing, playing all but one match at the No. 1 doubles position.
