EUGENE, Ore. - University of Idaho senior javelin thrower Ugis Svazs earned All-American honors with his eighth-place effort at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon.
Svazs' first throw of the competition - 232 feet - wound up his best.
"It was a great competition," said Vandal head track coach Julie Taylor. "I figured 70 meters would make the final (Ugis' was 71 meters). His first throw proved to be his best. I know Ugis wanted to improve on that mark but I am very proud of how he competed in his first NCAA final.
"To finish with first-team All-American honors is a great achievement."
Sam Humphreys of Texas A&M won the javelin title with a throw of 255 feet, 9 inches.
