LAS VEGAS – The Idaho women’s basketball team was picked to finish second by both coaches and media in the Western Athletic Conference in 2013-14, while senior Alyssa Charlston and junior Stacey Barr earned preseason honors, as the league released its preseason polls Tuesday morning.

The Vandals received 100 points in the media poll, including one first-place vote. Idaho came in 15 points short of Seattle U who was voted first with 11 first-place votes and 115 points. New Mexico State was picked third by the media with 80 points, followed by Utah Valley (75), CSU Bakersfield (66), Kansas City (53), Texas-Pan American (40), Grand Canyon (38) and Chicago State (18).

The coaches followed the media voting for the top three spots in the poll. Seattle U was again picked to win the league with 62 total points and six of the nine first-place votes. Idaho was picked second in the poll with 59 points and received the remaining three first-place votes. New Mexico State, with 47 points, was picked third. Kansas City was picked fourth with 36 points, followed by CSU Bakersfield (32), Utah Valley (30), Texas-Pan American (25), Grand Canyon (23) and Chicago State (10).

Charlston, a post player from Sammamish, Wash., was named a Preseason First Team All-WAC selection by both the media and coaches. Charlston averaged 13.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in 2012-13. Charleston was named a first-team All-WAC selection for the second consecutive season and was named to the 2013 All-Tournament team.

Barr, a guard out of Melbourne, Australia, was named a voted a Preseason First Team All-WAC selection by the coaches, joining Charlston. Barr averaged 10.9 points and 1.7 assists per game in the 2012-13 season. Barr was the 2013 WAC Tournament MVP, helping the Vandals to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1985.

The media honored Barr as a Second Team All-Conference selection in their voting.
