MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men’s basketball team will open the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Wednesday night when it takes on Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., at 5 p.m. (PT).

The Vandals enter the game with a 1-0 record after taking down Western Illinois in their season-opener. Oklahoma is 1-0 entering the week after beating Alabama, and hosts North Texas on Monday before taking on the Vandals.

“Oklahoma is obviously very good,” Idaho coach Don Verlin said. “They’re very quick and very athletic, and they’re going to put a lot of pressure on us. I’m hoping that’s one of our strengths this year, that we’re very quick and athletic for an Idaho team. I’m hoping we’re able to handle the ball versus their pressure.”

The Sooners had four double-figure scorers in their 82-73 win over Alabama, led by 19 points from Buddy Hield. Ryan Spangler added 15, Cameron Clark scored 14 and Jordan Woodard had 10 in that game. Oklahoma shot 44.4 percent against Alabama and connected on 7-of-21 3-pointers. The Sooners also had a 38-37 rebounding advantage and turned 17 offensive rebounds into 17 second-chance points.

“One big thing will be rebounding, they got 17 offensive rebounds the other night against Alabama and some of those guys are really athletic around the rim, and we’re going to have to do a good job keeping them off the glass,” Verlin added.

The Vandals were led by Stephen Madison in their season-opener, who earned WAC Player of the Week honors after scoring 21 points to go along with a career-high 14 rebounds and five assists. Madison made four of his six 3-point attempts and 7-of-11 from the field in the game overall.

Free live stats of Wednesday’s game will be available at www.GoVandals.com. Fans can also follow the action on the Vandal Radio Network throughout Idaho and Eastern Washington, and on VandalXTRA worldwide.

Idaho will return home to host Northwest Nazarene on Nov. 16 before traveling to Portland to finish up the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic against Portland, North Texas and Columbia Nov. 21-23.
