Tim Murphy joined the Idaho coaching staff in 2010-11 and has helped provide a boost to Idaho’s front line in his two seasons with the team. In Murphy’s two years on staff, the Vandals have posted a 37-28 record and have twice finished third in the WAC and qualified for postseason play. In those two seasons, Idaho also posted .500 or better single-game shooting performances 25 times, with a 23-2 record in such games. His primary responsibilities lie with Idaho’s post players and in his two seasons, Murphy has already helped tutor two-time All-WAC selection Kyle Barone and 2011-12 WAC All-Newcomer Team selection Djim Bandoumel. Murphy also manages Idaho’s scheduling, in addition to scouting and recruiting duties. Murphy brings 29 years of NCAA basketball coaching experience to the Vandal program. His most recent coaching stop before Idaho was as an assistant with Cal Poly from 2001-09. In addition to his eight seasons at Cal Poly, Murphy also served as associate head coach at St. Mary’s for four seasons from 1997-2001. He also worked three years at Cal State San Bernardino, eight years at UC Irvine over two separate occasions, one year at Pacific Lutheran and two seasons at Colorado State. Murphy’s has a strong record of individual player development throughout his career. He has coached six athletes who went on to NBA careers and 12 more who played professionally overseas. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Murphy also served as head coach of the Western Samoa National Team in 1993 and led the country to its first and only gold medal at the Oceania Championships, which includes Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Murphy was a letter winner from 1982-83 at Colorado State University and earned his degree from CSU in 1983 in Speech Communication. He and his wife, Sheri, have two daughters, Taylor and Ashley. |
