|Vandals look for sweep of BSU|
MOSCOW, Idaho - The Idaho women's basketball team will look to end its two-game skid when it travels to Boise for its second matchup with the Broncos this season. The game tips off at 5 p.m. Pacific, and is the first game of a doubleheader. The Vandal men will take on Boise State at 8 p.m.
The Vandals (12-10, 5-5 WAC) owned a 68-48 win over Boise State in Moscow on Jan. 22, which began a string of six straight losses for the Broncos (11-13, 2-8 WAC). Idaho, which finds itself in a three-way tie for the critical fourth spot in the Western Athletic Conference standings, is in need of a win after dropping its last two. The third- and fourth-place teams in the final WAC standings earn a first-round bye in the WAC tournament, while the top two teams earn two byes into the semi-finals.
Idaho has struggled on the road this season, going just 3-8 and 1-3 in WAC road games.
The Vandals are led by senior Yinka Olorunnife, who moved into second place in Idaho history earlier in the week with 960 career rebounds. Olorunnife is averaging team-highs with 14.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Senior Derisa Taleni has had seven assists in each of Idaho's last two games, and ranks fifth in the WAC, averaging 3.9 assists per game.
While Idaho's defense leads the WAC allowing just 59.8 points per game in conference games, the Vandals have given up 70 or more in their last two games. Idaho has not given up won a game in which its gives up more than 66 points this season.
The Broncos are led by Kati Isham's 13.9 points per game this season. Lauren Lenhardt is averaging 13.2 points per game, and is shooting 50.2 percent from the field, while grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game as well.
An Idaho win would give the Vandals their first regular-season sweep over Boise State since the 1996-97 season. With a loss, the Vandals would drop below .500 in WAC play for the first time this season.
The Vandals return to Moscow for their final two home games of the season when they face Utah State on Feb. 17 and Nevada on Feb. 19.
The game on Feb. 17 is Idaho's "Think Pink" night sponsored by Inland Cellular. "BeLIEVE" t-shirts will be on sale for 10 dollars at the game, with the proceeds going to cancer research. Idaho's on Feb. 19 is the last home game of the 2010-11 season, and five Idaho seniors will be honored for Senior Night.
