|Shin wins Memorial Day Open|
SEATTLE, Wash. - Alan Shin, a senior-to-be on the Idaho men's tennis team, claimed the singles title at the AV Tennis Center Memorial Day Weekend Open in Seattle, Wash., over the weekend with four straight wins, including wins over the No. 1, 2 and 4 seeded players in the tournament.
Despite dropping the first set of the championship match 6-2, Shin won the 27-man even with 7-5 and 7-6 wins in the second and third sets.
"It is great to see Alan's result in this strong event," Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. "He has been working hard this summer on changing some things with his game and it is now paying off."
Shin also advanced to the doubles finals in the event with partner Justin Guay with a pair of wins, including a 6-3, 7-5 win over the top-seeded duo of Ryan Pang and Jesse Schouten .
"His doubles win over the No. 1 seed shows that he is really making strides in his doubles game and should play a strong role in our doubles line-up next year," Beaman added.
