|Vandals ranked fourth in region|
MOSCOW, Idaho - The Idaho men's tennis team checked in at No. 4 in the final ITA Mountain Region rankings to cap one of the best seasons in program history.
The Vandals finished with a 19-8 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Western Athletic Conference play, and climbed all the way to a program-high No. 46 in the national rankings before finishing the season 58th.
"For our men's team to finish fourth in the region is a great accomplishment," Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. "We had an excellent year as a team with several wins over nationally ranked programs, reaching as high as 46th in the national rankings and finishing 58th in the country and 4th in a very strong region."
Individually, Lachlan Reed, Alex Joitoiu and Marius Cirstea were recognized with regional rankings as well. Cirstea, after going 12-14 at No. 1 singles in the spring, earned the No. 8 singles rank in the region, while Reed, with his 22-4 record at No. 2 singles, checked in at No. 10. The doubles team of Cirstea and Joitou earned a No. 8 regional ranking after going 11-8 at the No. 1 spot.
"With Lachlan, Alex and Marius being recognized in the individual rankings it shows the great years that they had with their individual results," Beaman said. "Their performances really contributed to our team's success."
The ITA Mountain Region consists of schools in New Mexico, Arizona (not including the University of Arizona), Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.
New Mexico State (No. 2), Boise State (No. 3) and Utah State (No. 8) also represented the WAC in the team rankings.
