MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho director of tennis Jeff Beaman has added another signee to the Vandal women's tennis team with the addition of Sophie Vickers, a native of Bairnsdale, Australia.

Vickers held a ranking as high as 139 in Australian women's open singles. She won the 2011 Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club Championship and the 2010 U18 Victoria State Hardcourt Championship. In 2009 and 2010 she was selected to the Australian High School Girls National Team.

"Sophie will be a great addition to our program, and should make an immediate impact," Beaman said. "She has had wins over several strong women's college players, is a great student, and we also always love to add another left handed player."

She has several wins in her career over top Australian and current NCAA Division I players, as well as against players with WTA world rankings and players ranking in the top 350 of the ITF junior world rankings.

Vickers was selected as captain of the Victorian Secondary Schools tennis team for the Australian Secondary Schools Championship, and was a member of the Australian Secondary School's Merit Team two straight years.

Vickers joins Almudena Sanz of Spain as Idaho's signees so far this summer.
