Chalk up another
one. University of Idaho senior Kayla Mortellaro was awarded the Western
Athletic Conference's Golfer of the Month award for October.
This marks
the fifth Golfer of the Month award for Mortellaro (Phoenix, Ariz.) to go with
seven Golfer of the Week awards and two WAC Player of the Year honors as well
as Freshman of the Year in her Vandal career. She was chosen this time for her
three October tournaments, which included a tie for 21st in the Edean Ihlanfeldt
Invitational in early October before tying for first at the Price’s Give ‘Em
Five Intercollegiate with a five-under par 211 (70-70-71) to help her team to a
second place finish. She then took second place at the Las Vegas
Collegiate Showdown, just two strokes behind the winner, with another
five-under 211 (68-68-75).
Mortellaro,
who averaged 72.3 strokes per round in October, has a career average of 72.80
strokes per round. She has won or tied for first in eight tournament and has
finished in the top five 61.1 percent of the time, in the top 10 75 percent of
the time, and in the top 25 97.2 percent of the time (she's only finished out
of the top 25 once in 36 events).
