MOSCOW - The Idaho women's tennis team couldn't improve on its five match win-streak, as the Oregon Ducks took a 5-2 victory over the Vandals in Moscow on Saturday.
Idaho's Victoria Lozano and Almudena Sanz took an 8-3 victory at No. 1 singles over Sofia Hager and Patricia Skowronski, the 50th ranked doubles pairing in the country, but Oregon won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to pick up the doubles point.
In singles play, Sanz won in straight sets at No. 2 and Beatriz Flores won at No. 6, but the Vandals were unable to pick up any more points. Lozano forced a third-set tiebreak at the top singles spot, but fell 11-9 to drop the point.
"They're a tough team," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said. "They're a pretty deep team. I thought we had chances. It's the kind of match where if we all played as well as we can play we'd have a chance to win it. Unfortunately that didn't happen. We played a bit sluggish in the beginning."
The Vandals fall to 16-6 on the season, and the loss snaps Idaho's five-match win streak that began on March 16.
Idaho will visit San Francisco on April 19 and San Jose State in a Western Athletic Conference match on April 20, before returning home to host Louisiana Tech in the WAC and regular season finale on April 22. The WAC tournament is April 26-28 in Las Cruces, N.M.
