CORVALLIS, Ore. – The University of Idaho women’s golf team made good use of practice last week with the result a strong fourth-place standing with one round to play at the Oregon State Invitational.

“Going into the tournament,” coach Lisa Johnson said, “we thought a round of 300 would be a good team score on this course.”

The Vandals did better with rounds of 297-299 for a 596 – just one stroke back of third and five out of second. Washington leads the16-team tournament with a 565 followed by Washington State (591), Gonzaga (595) and the Vandals.

Sophomore Leilanie Kim went 71-75 for a 146 and 13^th in the 90-player field. Kaitlyn Oster, another sophomore is tied for 20^th at 149 with junior Rachel Choi in a tie for 33^rd at 152. Idaho’s two freshmen also played admirably with Kristin Strankman turning in a 153 for a tie for 38^th and Cassie McKinley carding a 154 and a tie for 44^th.

“I’m extremely pleased with how well we scored as a team – especially since we’re so young,” Johnson said. “I’m extremely happy with our par-5 and wedge play.”

With one round to play, Johnson said the Vandals need to focus on managing their approach shots.

“We need to make good club selections,” Johnson said.
