|Vandals look to extend streak|
The Idaho volleyball team hits the road this week with a chance to match its longest win streak in nine seasons.
The Vandals, winners of their last four, visit UT Arlington on Oct. 11 and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 12, and with two wins, can match their pair of six-match win streaks in 2003. The last time an Idaho team won seven straight matches was 1999. Idaho's match against LA Tech was originally scheduled for Oct. 13, but has been moved to Oct. 12. Both matches begin at 5 p.m. Pacific.
Idaho enters the week with a 7-10 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Western Athletic Conference play. The Vandals have played eight five-set matches in 2012, the most of any WAC team, and are 3-5 in five-setters. Idaho, however, has won three of its last four five-set matches. The Vandals are a combined 15-0 all-time against this week's opponents.
UT Arlington has dropped its last three matches heading into the week and holds a 6-13 overall record with a 2-5 record in WAC play. The Mavericks and Vandals have met just once before, with Idaho winning 3-2 way back in 1990. UTA setter Amanda Welsh ranks fourth in the WAC with 9.82 assists per set.
LA Tech is 3-16 in 2012 but 0-7 in the WAC, and has dropped 21 consecutive WAC matches entering the week. The Vandals are 14-0 all-time against LA Tech. The Lady Techsters will face Seattle U on Thursday before hosting Idaho on Saturday.
Idaho junior Allison (Walker) Baker has tallied 33 consecutive double-digit kill matches, dating back to Sept. 16, 2011. Her 64 career double-digit kill matches rank eighth in Idaho history. Vandal senior Jenny Feicht has a chance to reach her milestone 2,500th career assist this week. She enters play with 2,468 assists in her career, just 32 shy of the benchmark.
Idaho will return home next week to host Utah State on Oct. 18 and San Jose State on Oct. 20, as it starts the second half of the WAC schedule.
