MOSCOW - The Idaho women's basketball team will open up Western Athletic Conference play in its first home game in a month when it welcomes Seattle U to the Cowan Spectrum on Dec. 29 for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The Vandals went 3-8 in non-conference play, while Seattle U went 3-6. Saturday's game is the WAC opener for both teams, and it is Seattle U's first-ever WAC game, as the Redhawks joined the league for the 2012-13 season.

The Redhawks get the majority of their scoring from their top three players, as Kacie Sowell, Ashley Ward and Sylvia Shephard combine to score 46.2 (70 percent) of the team's 66.1 points per game. Seattle U averages 23.0 turnovers per game, but owns a positive turnover margin by forcing its opponents into 24.2 turnovers per game.

The Vandals are led by junior Alyssa Charlston, who is coming off her second 20-plus scoring outburst of the season, a 21-point performance at Gonzaga on Dec. 20. Charlston averages team bests with 14.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and a 45.9 field goal percentage. Idaho freshman Christina Salvatore ranks second in the WAC with 2.8 3-pointers made per game, and averages 10.5 points per game.

The Vandals are on pace to set a program record for 3-pointers made in a season, averaging a WAC-best 7.8 3s per game, a mark that ranks 14th in NCAA Division I.

Saturday's game is dollar day. All tickets are only $1. It is the first of three straight home WAC contests for the Vandals. Idaho also hosts San Jose State at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 and Utah State at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5.
