|Vandals look to keep winning|
MOSCOW - The Idaho women's basketball team will look to ride the momentum of its recent Western Athletic Conference road sweep of Denver and New Mexico State as it hosts Louisiana Tech in the Cowan Spectrum on Jan. 17 for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
Both Idaho and LA Tech enter Thursday's game at 3-2 in the WAC and are in a three-way tie for second place in the league with Utah State. Idaho sports a 6-10 overall record while the Lady Techsters are 7-8 in 2012-13. Idaho has never beaten LA Tech in 15 tries, but the Vandals have come close at home in recent years. The last four meetings in Moscow have been decided by seven points or less, including two four-point LA Tech victories and one in overtime.
The Lady Techsters are under fifth-year head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, who is 80-41 at LA Tech. Kelia Shelton leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.1 points and 6.7 boards per game. The Lady Techsters average 57.9 points per game and shoot 37 percent from the field but just 27 percent from 3-point game, making 3.3 3s per game.
While the Vandals are led by junior Alyssa Charlston in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and double-double for the second straight year, Idaho brings a balanced offensive attack to the table. Five Idaho players are averaging better than 8.0 points per game in WAC play, including three with 12 or more points. Idaho makes 8.3 3-pointers per game, the 10th best total in NCAA Division I, but proved it can win without the 3-ball in its most recent outing, beating NMSU 57-51 despite going 4-of-17 from long range in the game.
The Vandals will wrap up the week against UT Arlington on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. Fans on the Palouse can catch the action on KMAX 850 AM with pregame show beginning at 5:45. Live stats and a live video stream of both games will also be available online at www.GoVandals.com.
