The Idaho women's tennis team will get its 25-match 2013 spring season underway Saturday when it makes the short trip to Pullman, Wash., to take on Washington State at 2 p.m.
Headlining Idaho's roster are 2012 first-team All-Western Athletic Conference pick Victoria Lozano and second-team pick Almudena Sanz, both juniors who are ranked No. 10 in the Mountain Region as a doubles pair heading into 2013. Sanz is also ranked No. 13 in the region in singles.
The Vandal roster saw the addition of freshman Belen Barcenilla since the fall, a native of Spain who arrived on campus earlier this month. Idaho is coached by Myriam Sopel, who took over the program in December after a stint as head coach at Wagner College. The Vandals return five of their top six players from last year's team that went 19-8 overall and 3-1 in the WAC.
Idaho's 2013 schedule features WAC home matches against Seattle U (April 12), San Jose State (April 13) and Texas State (April 14), and non-conference home matches against Eastern Washington (Mar. 6) and Nevada (Feb. 15/Pullman).
The Vandals will head to Oregon next week to take on the University of Oregon on Jan. 26, and Portland and Portland State on Jan. 27
