|Vandal women welcome UTA|
MOSCOW - The Idaho women's basketball team will look to get back above .500 in Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday as it welcomes UT Arlington to the Cowan Spectrum for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
The Vandals are 6-11 overall and 3-3 in the WAC after a setback on Thursday against Louisiana Tech. UT Arlington enters the game with a 3-13 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the WAC, and has lost five straight games.
The Vandals and Mavericks will be meeting for the first time in the history of the programs, as UT Arlington joined the WAC for the 2012-13 season. Idaho will pay UTA a return visit on Feb. 14.
UT Arlington has had 17 different players see action this season and 11 different players start, but none of them average double-figure points. The Mavericks are led by Laila Suleiman's 8.6 points per game. Malaika Green adds 8.4 points and Aron Garcia leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per game and adds 5.7 points.
Idaho junior Alyssa Charlston leads the team with 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and a 45.9 field goal percentage. Freshman Christina Salvatore is second on the team with 11.4 points per game and is second in the WAC and 14th in NCAA Division I with 3.00 made 3-pointers per game. Her 35.7 3-point field goal percentage ranks 85th in the country.
Saturday is Idaho's last home game until Feb. 7. The Vandals will visit Texas State and UTSA next week, and make the trip to play Utah State and San Jose State Jan. 31 and Feb. 2.
