PULLMAN, Wash. - The Idaho women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 7-0 loss at No. 32 Washington State on Saturday.
The Vandals had the early edge in doubles play, as Constance Alexander and Rita Bermudez won 8-5 over Liudmila Vasilieva and Lize Leenknecht at No. 2 doubles, but WSU won 8-5 over Victoria Lozano and Almudena Sanz at No. 1 and 8-4 over Beatriz Flores and Alejandra Lozano at No. 3 to win the doubles points. Victoria Lozano put up the toughest fight for Idaho in singles play, falling 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 to No. 48 Vasilieva, but the Cougars swept through singles to complete the 7-0 win. Idaho will face another Pac-12 opponent when it takes the court next, as Oregon awaits on Jan. 26. The Vandals will also face Portland and Portland State on Jan. 27 in Portland.
