A Look at the Bobcats
Texas State is 5-14 overall and 1-6 in Western Athletic Conference play in its first year in the league. The Bobcats ended a nine-game losing streak with an 81-78 overtime win at UTSA on Saturday. Texas State had lost each of its first six WAC games by double figures. In WAC play, TXST averages 64.9 points on 41 percent shooting, while opponents are shooting .494 and averaging 78.3 points per game. The Bobcats’ -9.3 rebounding margin is the lowest in the WAC, but their 3-point field goal percentage (.336) ranks fourth and their 7.14 made 3-pointers per game ranks third in WAC play. In league play, five Bobcats have already hit seven or more 3-pointers and four are shooting better than 40 percent from long range. Texas State is 1-5 on the road this season.

Texas State Head Coach Doug Davalos
Doug Davalos is in his seventh season as head coach at Texas State and 11th year overall as a collegiate head coach. He’s 157-150 in his coaching career and 85-115 with the Bobcats. The team has been among the nation’s scoring leaders during his tenure. He led the team to a share of the Southland Conference West Division title in 2011. Before his time at TXST, he led Sul Ross State (Texas) to a 72-35 record and three conference titles from 2002-06.

Idaho Vandals
Idaho posted its most efficient offensive outing of the season on Saturday at UT Arlington in a 77-64 win. The Vandals shot a season-best 59.5 percent from the field and out-rebounded what was the WAC’s top rebounding team by a 38-26 margin in the game. Senior center Kyle Barone tallied his eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, while sophomore guard Connor Hill went 4-of-6 from long range and posted a game-high 19 points.

Vandals vs. Bobcats
Texas State is the second of Idaho’s three first-time opponents this season, with Saturday opponent UTSA being the third.

Perimeter Priority
Texas State is third in the WAC with 7.19 made 3-pointers per game and a 33.6 percentage in conference play. Idaho features the league’s stingiest perimeter defense so far in WAC play, where opponents are hitting just 25.7 percent and making only 5.1 per game. Idaho’s overall 3-point field goal defensive percentage of .301 ranks 45th nationally. On the other side, Idaho ranks third in WAC play with a .357 long-range percentage, while Texas State opponents are hitting making 7.6 long-range shots per game at a 36.1 percent clip in league play.

The Magic Number
Texas State shoots just 41 percent from the floor as a team, but the Bobcats rank second in the WAC overall with 70.5 points per game this season and have tallied three of their five 80-point games this season on the road. Under head coach Doug Davalos, Texas State has shown a propensity for points and has finished in the top 25 in the NCAA in scoring each of the last five seasons. When TXST scores 70 or more points this season, they’re 5-4. When they score less than 70, they’re 0-10. On the other side, Idaho is 6-4 when holding opponents below 70 points, but 1-6 when allowing 70 or more.

Top Low Post Scorers
The Idaho men’s basketball 1,000-Point Club has 13 total members, but just three predominantly post-oriented players - Riley Smith (8th, 1,195), Deon Watson (11th, 1,115) and now, senior center Kyle Barone, who has 1,182 career points. Barone needs just 14 more points to become the highest-scoring big man in program history.
