MOSCOW, Idaho – At the second of three-straight home meets, University of Idaho track and field won five events and tallied several more career-best marks on Saturday at the Vandal Collegiate, presented by Runners Soul of Spokane.

Four Vandal women took individual wins at the meet, while one Idaho man, junior Kyle Rothwell, claimed victory in the weight throw.

Senior Liga Velvere added a women’s 400m dash win to her weekend haul with a season-best time of 56.11, which is fourth-fastest in the Western Athletic Conference so far this season. Freshman Halie Raudenbush took the win in the women’s 800m in her first career race over that distance with a time of 2:19.09, while fellow frosh Marquita Palmer led from start to finish in the women’s mile and posted a time of 5:18.02.

Senior thrower Kristine Leonard had a strong day on Friday at the Vandal Indoor and showed no signs of wear on Saturday with two career-best marks, one win and one runner-up finish. She launched the 20-pound weight 56-6.75 (17.24m) for the win and took second with a career-best heave of 46-8.25 (14.23m) in the women’s shot put.

Rothwell proved that his final-attempt mark of 61-10.5 (18.86m) in the men’s weight throw on Friday was no fluke by matching it – exactly 18.86m – on his final attempt on Saturday.

“Yesterday there was a lot of excitement and I was really amped up on that throw,” Rothwell said. “Today was much more of a technical throw. I felt really good technically all through warm-ups and it was nice to hit that again.”

Along with Leonard in the women’s shot put, Idaho got personal bests from sophomore Molly Meyers, who finished sixth with a two-foot career-best of 41-6.5 (12.66m) and sophomore Reba Eggert, who took 12th with a toss of 36-11.75 (11.27m).

Freshman Stephanie Rexus (10:51.97) and junior Ailene MacPherson (11:42.10) tallied career-best times in the women’s 3000m, while freshman Nicole Dorsey finished sixth in the women’s 60m hurdles with a career-best time of 9.87.

For the men, senior Jeff Osborn ran a career-best 1:56.44 and finished fourth in the 800m, while freshman Ian Middleton went 50.30 and sophomore Jesse Villines ran a 50.46 to give the pair career bests in the 400m. Freshman Jan Kurr was the men’s long jump runner up with a leap of 22-9.25 (6.94m).

The three-meet home stand continues Sunday morning with the Vandal Open, which starts with field events at 9:30 a.m. (PT) and track events at 10 a.m.
