A Look at Idaho State:
The Bengals are 5-20 overall entering Saturday's game. Melvin Morgan leads the team with 12.0 points per game and adds 3.4 rebounds. Chris Hansen averages 11.2 points and 3.4 boards for the Bengals and Tomas Sanchez adds 10.1 points per game. Idaho State shoots an average of 17.1 3-pointers per game, and is a 31.9 percent 3-point shooting team on the season. Idaho State has lost eight of its last nine games, including two overtime defeats in that span. ISU's lone win in that stretch is an 87-51 blowout victory at home against Montana State on Feb. 14.
Idaho State Head Coach Bill Evans:
Bill Evans is in his first season as head coach at Idaho State, and owns a 5-20 overall record with the Bengals. Before joining Idaho State he was an assistant at Montana for four seasons, after serving as head coach at Southern Utah University from 1992-2007. His 209 victories at Southern Utah make him the winningest coach in that program's history. Evans is a four-time Coach of the Year and led SUU to its only NCAA tournament berth, a trip to the 2001 tournament where the team lost 67-64 to No. 9 Boston College. SUU finished with a 25-6 record that season.
The Vandals lost another close game on Saturday, falling 67-61 to WAC-unbeaten Louisiana Tech. Idaho led for the game's first 32+ minutes, but the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with 7:37 to play and Idaho never regained the advantage. LA Tech's lead never grew to more than six points, but the Vandals couldn't get over the hump.
Vandals vs. Bengals
The Vandals own a 58-42 advantage in the all-time series against Idaho State, but the Bengals have won five straight against Idaho. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 29, 2008 when Idaho State won 61-59 in Pocatello, Idaho. The last two games in the series have been two-point ISU victories, as the Bengals also won 71-69 in overtime on Dec. 1, 2007. Idaho's last win was a 75-59 win in Moscow on Feb. 2, 2004.
