This Week in Outdoor Vandal Track and Field:
Buc Scoring Invitational (Spokane, Wash.)

Looking Forward
After a notable indoor season - one that saw five school records, two Western Athletic Conference records, six individual WAC titles, 10 First-Team All-WAC honors, and one Vandal earn a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association First-Team All-American honors, the Vandals will transfer their focus to the outdoor season. Idaho’s outdoor season opens Friday March 22 with the Buc Scoring Invitational at Spokane, Wash., hosted by Whitworth University.

Historically Speaking
The Idaho women won the Buc Scoring Invitational last year, while the men placed second at the meet. The Vandal track and field team walked away with eight individual titles; five on the women’s side and three on the men's. Among the 2013 women returners, sophomore Johanna Hocketstaller was first-place in the women’s javelin throw, top collegian in both the shot put and discus throw, and finished second overall in the meet, while junior Emily Paradis claimed the 3000m steeplechase and junior Cait Rowland won the 100m hurdles. For the men, senior Jason Lorentz claimed the individual title in the long jump, while sophomore Matt Sullivan placed second in the men’s pole vault, and senior Ugis Svazs finished second in the men’s javelin.

A Quick Recap
Junior Hannah Kiser left the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships as an All-American two weeks ago. Kiser placed fifth in the women’s 3000m posting a time of 9:07.76. This is Kiser’s second honor.

19 Years and Counting
Kiser’s All-American honor makes it 19 consecutive years the Idaho track program has received such an award. In all, the Vandal track and field athletes have earned 88 All-American honors in program history. Kiser was the first Idaho woman to be honored in the indoor 3000m when she received her All-American award last year.
