Vandals tied for sixth

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The University of Idaho men's golf team, led by the top 15 efforts of Gordon Webb and Aaron Cockerill, is tied for sixth after the first round of the Desert Shootout at Palm Valley Golf Course (par 71, 7015).

Webb is at three-under 68 after firing a 32 on the front nine. He is tied for sixth, while Cockerill is just one stroke back at 69 and in a tie for 13th. At even-par 71 is Dylan Baker in a tie for 31st with Alex Pounds tied for 65th at 74 and Sean McMullen tied for 79th at 76.

The Vandals' team total of 282 ties them with Illinois for sixth in the 16-team field. Tulsa is the first-round leader with a 274 and is followed by BYU at 275, and Denver, Colorado State and Southern Utah all at 280.

Illinois' Thomas Pieters had a six-under 65 for the first-round lead.
