The Vandals improve to 10-10 on the season and 3-3 in WAC play with the win.
Victoria Lozano breezed through her No. 1 singles match with a 6-2, 6-0 win and Almudena Sanz won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Constance Alexander won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Belen Barcenilla won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, Beaty Flores won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and Sophie Vickers won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 for Idaho.
“The players have really been stepping up and showing leadership,” Idaho coach Myriam Sopel said. “It’s really good that they can lead by example and I’m really pleased with the effort of everybody overall.”=
Idaho will take on No. 66 San Jose State at 3 p.m. on Saturday and wrap up the weekend against Texas State on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Moscow, weather permitting.
It’s great to get the first win of the weekend. The past two matches have been good for their confidence and a good boost for the next matches. We are taking them one at a time. We know San Jose State is good, they’re ranked. If we go out there and compete and believe in our shots and believe in ourselves, we have a really good shot at winning.
The Vandals wrap up the regular season at Utah State on April 20 before heading to the WAC tournament in Denver April 25-28.
