|No. 39 BYU slips past Idaho|
SPOKANE, Wash. – The No. 72 Idaho men’s tennis team fell to No. 39 BYU 4-3 in Spokane, Wash., on Friday night.
BYU got the early advantage by winning the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Idaho got wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 singles from Abid Akbar, Jose Bendeck, and Cesar Torres, but it wasn’t enough to top the Cougars.
“It was a very competitive match and I really enjoyed watching how the guys competed in singles,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “The match really could have gone either way. BYU is a team that could finish top 30 in the nation so this is great preparation for our two very tough conference matches coming up.”
The Vandals fall to 20-5 on the season with the loss. Idaho will host UTSA and Denver in Western Athletic Conference matches on April 19 and 21, and also face CC of Spokane on April 21. The WAC championships are April 26-28 in Denver.
