MOSCOW – University of Idaho soccer coach Pete Showler has announced the addition of three players to the roster for the coming fall, as Katarina Comesana from Sunnyvale, Calif., Taryn Phillips from Campbell, Calif., and Kimberly Jaderlund from Mora, Sweden, will join the team.

“To get three players of this quality so late in the game is fantastic,” Showler said. “We’re excited. They bring a breadth of different qualities. Each one of them is very different but also very complimentary to what we already have. It is a fantastic situation that we find ourselves in to be able to pick up players of this quality this late.”

Comesana brings some versatility to the table for the Vandals, as she can play center back or center forward. She comes from De Anza College, where she also competes on the track and field team, and will have two years of eligibility remaining at Idaho. Comesana is a 2010 graduate of Homestead High School in Cupertino, Calif.

“Katarina is strong and very athletic,” Showler said. “She runs track at De Anza right now, so she has great speed, a great engine and a phenomenal personality. She is going to give us options on both sides of the ball which is nice, and her physical presence will be felt on the pitch.”

Phillips, a forward/midfielder, also comes from De Anza College where she was a team captain in soccer and also played softball. The 2010 graduate of Presentation High School will have two years to play at Idaho.

“Taryn is a great athlete with fantastic foot skills,” Showler said. “Like Kat she has a couple years of experience behind her at the junior college level and that experience will be invaluable. She is very good technically and she will give us an added dimension on the attacking side.”

Jaderlund is a goalkeeper with an appealing upside who will bring experience to the position. She earned a spot on a Swedish all-district team and earned team MVP honors while competing against other districts. Jaderlund will be a freshman when she arrives at Idaho in the fall.

“Kimberly is going to come in and be a great addition to the goalkeeping side,” Showler said. “She is a little bit older so she brings more experience than we would expect for a freshman. I can see big developments coming from her very quickly.”

The trio will join 11 players Showler signed in February in Idaho’s 2013 incoming class.

“With the three this late of stage is very exciting and what a fantastic group of student-athletes we’re going to have here, and it bodes well for the future.”
