LEWISTON, Idaho – Several members of the Idaho men’s and women’s tennis teams found success competing  in the Fazzari’s Tennis Championships in Lewiston, Idaho last weekend, gaining momentum as the fall collegiate schedule approaches.

Vicky Lozano and Beaty Flores won the women’s open doubles draw, beating Vandal teammates Belen Barcenilla and Alejandra Lozano. Vicky Lozano also teamed up with Artemiy Nikitin to claim the mixed doubles championship, beating Vandal pairings of Barcenilla and Andrew Zedde in the second round  and Abid Akbar and Sophie Vickers in the finals. Zedde won the men’s open singles draw while fellow Vandal Sam Laudon advanced to the semifinals.

"It was great to see that a number of our players chose to play this open event and their results,” Idaho Director of Tennis Jeff Beaman said. “It gave them a chance to get back some of the competitive focus and to build confidence going into the first official events this fall."

The Vandal men begin their fall schedule Sept. 20-22 at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas, and the women begin the same weekend at the Boise State Invite in Boise, Idaho.
