NAPA, Calif. – Three Idaho men’s tennis players took part in the Napa Valley Collegiate Invitational over the weekend, where Vandal newcomer Balasz Odon Barta went a perfect 3-0 in singles competition.

All three of Barta’s singles victories came in three sets. He beat San Francisco’s Nils Skajaa, Oklahoma State’s Vasili Caripi and UNLV’s Denys Pume. Also in singles, Idaho’s Cesar Torres went 2-1 and Artemiy Nikitin went 2-1.

“The players had a solid showing at this high level event,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “I definitely liked things I saw in singles and doubles, which gave me some confidence in the level of team we have in this rebuilding year.”

Idaho doubles pairings combined to go 3-2 in doubles play during the event. The Vandals continue their fall schedule at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas Sept. 20-22.
