The Idaho women’s swimming and diving team made its debut Saturday vs. rival Boise State in Boise. The team lost its opener 217.5 to 82.5, making it six straight losses to BSU.

“This was a bit of a tough start for us,” Coach Mark Sowa said. “However, I know that we can compete with this team. Our focus on our skills was not what it should have been, blind effort is seldom successful. Yet, we saw moments of greatness from our newcomers and our returners raced well in spots.”

There are still some positives to be taken from this meet. Junior swimmer Rachel Millet set a pool record in the backstroke during the meet with a time of 2:01.36. The record was previously held by former U.S. National Team member Jamie Reid.

The Vandal’s next meet will be at home at the UI Swim Center where they will be swimming against Northern Colorado on Friday, October 18. They will also be swimming against Washington State at home on Saturday, October 19.

“I believe as we get healthy, we will be much better in two weeks,” Sowa said.
